Oh god no. They’re back.
Damn right baby! We got a new fresh batch of MMMs a-brewin’, hope ya hungry…
Today, we’re looking a deep cut — with album track Bang Your Head, from horrorcore pioneering supergroup Gravediggaz’ 1994 debut 6 Feet Deep. Check the audio below:
One of the forgotten gems of the genre, Gravediggaz acted, in my eyes, as the Misfits of east-coast rap, with, along with ya standard murderin’, lyrics on suicide, psychosis and killing sprees. This is accentuated in gloriously campy and outrageous fashion by east-coast legends Frukwan, Poetic and Wu-Tang’s RZA, produced under the masterful eye of Prince Paul.
One of the more hookiest songs on the album, a primary reason I’m writing this article now is due to the fact that “Bang your head, bang-your-mutha-fuckin’-head” has been replaying in my head for about 2 weeks. The standard classic hip-hop beat lays a solid foundation for Prince Paul to lay some very interesting quirks to the instrumental, including the grinding distortion whines and an underlay of rain pouring — the atmosphere is dark. On top of this, we have the lunacy of the verses, with eccentricity to spare in both the lyrics and the wild performances.
“Like devils in a Ouija board, I’m spellin’ “DOOM”.”
Lots of hugs, kisses and lacerations
