Time to get ya chants and short songs out cus we got the Ramones today, fool, and their track I Don’t Wanna Go Down To The Basement, from their eponymous 1976 debut. Check the audio below:
Perhaps the most iconic punk album of all time, Ramones’ debut album is a rock solid knife-slash of rocket-fuelled bops with enough energy to get me out of bed on a Monday (amiriteeeeeeeeeeeeeee *coughs up blood*). Everything’s fast, with Tommy’s speeding beats, Joey’s barking vocals, and the dual attack of Johnny and Dee Dee.
Like every other song on the album, I Don’t Wanna Go Down To The Basement is a prime example of this. The simple, horror movie-inspired lyrics drill into the listener’s head, I’ve been singing it around the house for little over a month now. While Johnny’s buzzsaw riffs fills the instrumental space with sharpness, it’s the rhythm section that really punks this bitch up for me, with Dee Dee ruling over the mix like a deadbeat despot, and Tommy’s hi-hat hammering into the side of my ear with no mercy.
Lots of hugs, kisses and lacerations
